Stability Campaigns: Do We Learn ?
The Queen¹s Centre for International Relations, Defence Management Studies (Queen¹s University), the US Army War College, and Land Force Doctrine and Training System (Canadian Forces), announce the 2007 conference entitled: ³Stability Campaigns: Do We Learn?²
This year¹s conference brings together leading representatives of government, the military, international institutions and universities to reflect on how best to prepare military commanders and government officials to plan and conduct complex stability campaigns. The primary purpose is to gain a better understanding, not only of what has been learned from previous campaigns, but also and more importantly how military and civilian leaders ³learn to learn², that is, how they acquire the capacity to comprehend the situations they are in, and to respond effectively. Panels will focus on learning at the strategic and operational levels, on learning by non-military actors, and on the role of the academic, policy and media communities. Invited speakers include the Honourable Gordon O¹Connor, Minister of National Defence; General Rick Hillier, Chief of Defence Staff; Ambassador Chris Alexander, UNAMA; and Dr. Eliot Cohen, Johns Hopkins University. The deadline to pre-register at the reduced rate of $250.00 CAD is Friday, 1 June 2007. After this date, the full registration fee of $300.00 CAD will apply. The registration fee is non-refundable. Registration covers the ŒMeet and Greet¹ reception, meals, breaks, and attendance at historic Fort Henry¹s ŒSunset Ceremony¹. These sunset performances by the Fort Henry Guard relive the pomp and pageantry of the British Military of 1867.
Once again, the conference venue is the Four Points by Sheraton Kingston. We have secured a preferential room rate of $149.00 per night (plus applicable taxes) at the conference hotel. The deadline to secure a room at this preferred rate is 8 June 2007. Click this link Stability Campaigns Conference to access the online reserved conference block to book your room.
